pROCESS SIMULATION

Comprehensive fill, cooling, warp and process simulation enable optimized production molding. Simulation services play an important role in the quality assurance practiced by MGS. We believe in utilizing the power of simulation through every stage of product development. Simulation is an incredibly valuable tool to help ensure our customers' product designs are robust, manufacturable and meet target costs. It helps our customers to achieve higher quality, more cost-effective products and bring them to market sooner. Our in-house capabilities, combined with the strategic partnerships we’ve built with engineering service providers, present our customers with a number of options in software applications and engineering expertise, including the industry’s most recognized software: Sigmasoft, Moldflow® MPI/MPA and Moldex 3D®.

MGS is a world leader in the integration of machining and validation operations of mold making. We are renowned for incorporating automation in the tool build phase. Our automated work cells combine machining technologies (high speed/high precision, five-axis, wire EDM and RAM EDM) with robotics and integrated Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM). The result is a highly accurate and repeatable process of creating precision engineered steel. The MGS automated tool shop, located in the MGS Corporate Headquarters in Germantown, Wisconsin, houses leading edge machining technologies integrated with sophisticated robotic systems and in-line coordinate measuring machines.

  • 6 Mitsubishi SA20 Advance wire EDM machines

    • Integrated with Fanuc gantry-style 6 axis robotic cell (.002 diameter wire capable)
  • Graphite production cell

    • Brown and Sharpe Global Advantage 555 CMM and two 5-axis Roeders CNC machine cells (500 & 600 series) with a 240 position Systems 3R robot for electrode changing
    • Makino V33i mill equipped with a 60 position Systems 3R WorkPal robot for electrode changing
  • Hard Steel production cell

    • With two Makino V33i mills with 16 pallet capacity, served by two Systems 3R robots and integrated quality control station supported by one Brown and Sharpe CMM

sampling, Development & qualification

We have dedicated facility, equipment & experienced personnel, focused on a comprehensive approach to mold sampling, mold and part qualification, material evaluations and initial process development.

Mold Functional Samples through Systems Validation The MGS Sampling Group performs over 1,000 events every year, using eight presses – 28 ton to 1400 ton. A comprehensive evaluation of mold performance – mechanics, plumbing, plastics delivery and ejection. In house staff includes full time: Process Engineers (2) Process Technicians (4) Material Handlers (2) Maintenance Technician (1) Sampling Assistants (2) all with direct access to the MGS Tooling Group Support equipment includes: Material loading systems, mold heaters, robots and material dryers, etc.
Services include: Complete turnkey manufacturing systems (tooling, robotics, automation technologies, specialty molding equipment, conveyors, etc.) staging, validation, transfer and launch.
