January 2010: MGS Implements Multishot
Molding at Mexico Facility
Germantown, Wisconsin— The MGS Mfg. Group, a leading provider of engineered
manufacturing solutions to the plastics industry, has implemented multishot
(multiple material) molding at TecStar de Mexico, its molding facility in
Chihuahua, Mexico.
The
multishot manufacturing cell was added in September of this year. The cell
utilizes a two-cavity mold in a Krauss Maffei
machine. Multishot technologies are implemented using a UMS (Universal
Multishot Systems™) 32V portable injection unit and 750mm rotary platen.
The cell currently produces a two-component
housing with a molded-in seal/gasket used in a metering device for the
mining and construction industry.
Due to
increased demand for multishot molding services in that region of North
America, the company will expand its multishot molding capabilities at
TecStar de Mexico in early 2010. One particular project that is initiating
the need to rapidly expand production is a five-tool, two-shot transfer
program.
The
employees responsible for assembling, running, and maintaining the
multishot press received extensive training at the company’s molding
facility in Germantown, Wisconsin. The Germantown team also traveled to
Chihuahua to assist with the set-up of the manufacturing cell and to
provide additional training.
Along with
providing conventional and multishot injection molding services, the ISO
9001:2000 certified facility also offers insert molding, continuous
extrusion shuttle blow molding, and value-added secondary operations.
